Fort Erie's downtown saw many welcome improvements last year and the trend continued uninterruped this year and continues still. More benches and garbage receptacles have been placed on Jarvis Street to accommodate increased traffic. Donations to offset the cost of street furniture are recognized with plaques to memorialize loved ones of the benefactors. Many residents got to welcome Global Astronomy Month with a fresh view of the heavens thanks to Dark Sky friendly LED street light fixtures. The replacement of Central Avenue Bridge is expected to be complete before mid-July. Note the bridge will be closed to all traffic beginning April 18 and re-opened for motorists only on April 25 until the new bridge is in place. Detour via Niagara Blvd.

The expansion of Fate Salon at 31 Jarvis Street is nearing completion. The first week of May will reveal the new build and welcome Atrium Spa to the Bridgeburg business community. The combining of Fate Salon and Atrium Spa in one location brings full service salon and spa to downtown Fort Erie. Fate Salon will also have a dedicated barbering section for its male clientelle and continue to expand its wet shaving and bearded lifesytle products. History buffs will be delighted to learn the original building first opened as Reno's Salon in 1967 has been incorporated into the design of the new building. Vince Salvatori took over his father's salon in 2002 and rebranded and renovated to introduce his concept of elegance and style for the next generation. The current project will complete Vince's vision of a second-to-none salon and spa.

Sub Culture at 95 Jarvis Street has re-opened after renovations and offers fresh subs, wraps and tacos much to the delight of local residents and downtown employees. Across the street at 102 Jarvis Street The Savoury Bean specializing in coffee, breads, honeys, and specialty desserts is another welcome addition to the district and will undoubtedly become another success story. Bridgeburg's indoor market hosted at the old Station 2 fire hall now owned by Regional Limousine has been satisfying taste buds and appetites for freshness every Tuesday from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm. As the warmer weather returns the indoor market will draw to a close and the Farmers Market will revive in the municipal parking lot at the top of Jarvis Street between Sub Culture and Royal Town Diner on May 17. The Farmers Market will be open rain or shine every Tuesday from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm until October 25. There is potential for even more diversity in offerings now that electrical service can be provided to vendors for refrigeration and heating.

There's a lot of work going on in Bridgeburg but there's a lot of fun to be had, too! You don't have to wait until the 2nd Annual Taste of Fort Erie on September 17 to experience some great live music. Guilty Pleasures will be playing at the Alley Bar on Friday, April 15 at 10 pm.

Sloan will be playing at the Bell Tower Sanctuary on Sunday, May 8. Doors open at 8:00 pm. Show begins at 8:30 pm. Tickets available online at https://www.ticketscene.ca/events/14942/ or in person inside Fate Salon, 96 Jarvis Street and Brimstone Brewing Company, 209 Ridge Road.
